Office of General Counsel Compliance - Intern

• Must be a rising junior or senior
• 3.0 or above GPA required
• Must be available to work May 14th through August 3rd
• Wage: $18.50 per hour

The purpose of an internship in the Office of General Counsel’s compliance department is to introduce a college student to areas of risk management, business continuity, benefit plans compliance and securities compliance. The intern will work with a broad range of business processes and gain hands-on experience with enterprise risk management, internal controls and testing, and performing tasks to ensure compliance with laws and regulations. The internship will assist OGC/Compliance with meeting deadlines, accomplishing special projects and achieving 2018 goals.

Purpose and Mission

Assist risk management and compliance staff in a variety of projects involving Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), retirement and welfare plans compliance, securities compliance, business continuity planning and content management. This involves monitoring and evaluating internal controls, testing processes and procedures and providing recommendations for process and policy improvements. Performs basic 401(k) non-discrimination testing including gathering files and system information, analyzing data and producing deliverables such as testing results and cover letters. Updates and reviews retirement and welfare plan documents, summary plan descriptions, etc. Works with and develops Excel spreadsheets and Word documents. Assists as needed with the design of SharePoint sites and updating information contained in the sites, as well as working with a process modeling database. Organizes office areas by scanning documents, categorizing and setting up files, etc.

• Work on compliance tasks and projects to ensure compliance with ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA Privacy and Securities laws and regulations
• Assist with editing and creating pension and welfare plan documents, information and testing requirements
• Work in areas of enterprise risk management, business continuity and content management
• Work with and develop risk monitoring and internal controls activities, policies and procedures
• Develop both oral and written communications skills and interacting in a team environment.
• Exposure to multiple project areas and multi-tasking workload

Requirements and Qualifications

• Preferred Degree Program: Risk Management, Business or Accounting 
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, SharePoint
• Knowledge of Internet functions and capabilities
• Knowledge or interest in retirement and healthcare plans and their related laws (ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA Privacy)
• Knowledge or interest in securities laws (SEC, FINRA)
• Attention to detail and accurate proof-reading skills
• Analytical skills
• Strong organizational skills

Candidate will be required to review and sign OGC's Safeguarding Protected and Confidential Information standards (attached). This position will work with Protected and Confidential information in a department that is responsible for risk management, business continuity plans, and many regulatory compliance activities (ERISA pension and welfare plans, HIPAA and SEC).
