Strategic Program Management - Intern

• Must be a rising junior or senior
• 3.0 or above GPA required
• Must be available to work May 14th through August 3rd
• Wage: $18.50 per hour

The purpose of the internship is to provide practical work experience in the areas of business analysis, project management, systems implementation, data management and business process optimization within the Insurance & Financial Services (I&FS) division. The activities of the I&FS division are focused within the employee benefits administration industry in providing health and retirement benefits to the employees of electric co-operatives across the country.
The Strategic Program Management (SPM) internship will provide real-world experience in the business analysis, business process redesign and project management, and an opportunity to collaborate daily with colleagues, team members and strategic partners. In collaboration with its strategic business partners, the mission of the I&FS SPM department is to combines technology innovation with business process excellence to maximize the efficiency, effectiveness and affordability of NRECA's employee benefits. The SPM department drives the organization’s strategic initiatives using their depth of project management, business knowledge, process transformation and data management skills.

Purpose and Mission

The Strategic Program Management - Intern will work on broad ranges of tasks such as business processes reviews, user acceptance testing, managing project tasks and data analysis. The intern will participate in team meetings and all NRECA intern functions. SPM intern will be required to participate in the following projects:

• Support key I&FS strategic initiatives including 401(k) upgrades, Retirement Security (RS) platform, employee benefits web portal, tax advantaged side accounts administration and Group Insurance product strategy
• Participate in business testing of employee benefits web portal components for Life and Employment Events and Benefits Plan Rating (BPR)
• Participate in Business Process Excellence projects
• Assist with departmental projects and administrative tasks
• Make updates to the departmental SharePoint site
• Attend NRECA and I&FS sponsored activities (e.g., team building, enrichment activities, iCARE, Service Excellence...)
• Contribute to an association-wide internship project (TBD)
• Develop positive work habits, skills and techniques applicable to intern’s college coursework
• Learn new technology or apply existing knowledge in new ways
• Apply critical thinking, analysis and complex problem solving
• Increase exposure and knowledge of business process management and business systems
• Accomplish tasks or participate in projects that will enhance communications, team work and leadership skills
• Gain experience working on cross-collaborative projects

Requirements and Qualifications

• Preferred Degree Program: Business Administration, Finance or related degree
• Meet NRECA’s Internship Criteria
• Experience (or desire to learn) developing business requirements for software application changes and business testing system changes
• Experience (or desire to learn) creating business processing work flow models
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, Power Point and SharePoint
• Experience in Microsoft Visio,, or similar flowcharting application
• Strong organizational and analytical skills
• Strong written and oral communications
• Comply with guidelines, policies, procedures, and professional conduct set by NRECA
