Cybersecurtiy Journalist Intern

Note: This is an intern position. You must be a rising college junior or senior with a 3.0 GPA.

The purpose of this internship is to capture the full breadth of work done across NRECA to improve the cybersecurity or our member utilities.  The intern will gain extensive experience in interviewing staff, summarizing results, and identifying potential areas for improvement to enable similar reports to be developed in the future.


Purpose and Mission

The intern will be responsible for working with limited supervision to complete the project.  The intern will work with Supervisor to:
• create a list of staff to interview
• develop interview questions
• conduct interviews
• compile the information
• create an outline on how to present the results of the interviews
• write a final report summarizing current and proposed cybersecurity efforts, and make recommendations on ways to develop similar summary reports in the future
• present results to Supervisor in a PowerPoint format
• make 2 formal PowerPoint presentations of results: one to BTS staff and one to NRECA staff

Requirements and Qualifications

Technical journalism or technical writing degree program

Prefer technical background and/or interest in cybersecurity, computer science, electrical engineering, the electric grid, and/or national security.

• Formal training in journalism, public relations, technical writing or related field study
• Documented experience interviewing and writing up results
• Documented ability to extract key points from a large body of text
• Documented ability to organize and produce written reports
• Documented ability to consolidate written material and summarize it for different audiences
• Interest in learning how to create effective PowerPoint presentations

This is an intern position.
3.0 or above GPA required and Must be a rising junior or senior
Dates: May 14th through August 3rd
Wages: $18.50 per hour
